New Menu out
Head Chef, Istvan, has put together a great new menu for the Summer months, which will be complemented as usual by his ever changing Black Board.

Look out for his:
Pan-fried Plaited Fillet of Pork - rösti potato, broccoli, leek sauce or
Slow Roast Confit of Duck - celeriac mash, spinach; blackberry redcurrant & port jus.

Regan continues to do wonders with her puddings - how about a:
Classic Lemon Meringue Pie - with a lime syrup or Chocolate Chip Cookie & Raspberries
- a biscuit base, dark chocolate ice cream, warm white chocolate sauce, fresh raspberries?

Pudding Nights Update
We are fully booked now for our next Pudding Night on Thursday 12th June. The next date is Wednesday 16th July. This is almost fully booked too, with only a few bar tables left. The next night will be in September - the date is yet to be finalised, but do drop me a line if you would like to be alerted once set.

Guest Rooms Ahoy!
The drains and broadband ducting were put in this month providing an extra obstacle course for cars over a few weeks. Brick window arches now in place and scaffolding up for the roof.

Celeb Spotting
Jeremy Clarkson turned up with his three Alpha Romeos as planned, hoping to do some filming at The Red Lion for Top Gear, having put a few Spitfires through their paces at Duxford in the morning. He was unfortunately a little taken aback by the interest in his visit (a welcoming party of 50 or so had gathered for the spectacle) and so had to come up with an emergency plan B. The "top secret location" was omitted from the brief, so apologies to those affected for letting the cat out of the bag.

News Round Up from Last Month:

Sawday Telegraph Response
We are pleased to have got through a very busy May, taking on the huge Telegraph Alistair Sawday Offer response. Apologies to any regulars who got caught up in the fray. The staff coped admirably. See Telegraph review - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/wine/main.jhtml?xml=/wine/2008/05/02/edpubs102.xml&page=3

John Forrest Wine Accolade
One of our most popular wines, John Forrest's Sauvignon Blanc, has recently been given a rave review by Wine & Spirit Magazine: "Beautiful passionfruit fragrance, but not in your face at all. A fantastic example of NZ Sauvignon with elegance."

Feedback Thank You
Many of you have been kind enough to fill out some feedback forms on your visits. Thank you so much for these - it is so helpful to us in determining where we need to focus our attention. If you have not had this opportunity or would like to give us some pointers on how we could improve (or just to give us a little encouragement) then please do email me directly (alex@redlionhinxton.co.uk) or let us know through the website.

Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Comins who won the May draw for a dinner for two from the feedback cards.

Some feedback from the month:

We look forward to seeing you soon.

Sincerely,
Alex

The Red Lion Hinxton in the Press

I feel quite strongly about not paying for articles or "advertorials" - they strike me as cheap and misleading, and I believe that customers are increasingly wise to this type of advertising.

All the below have been printed on a merit only basis - because The Red Lion Hinxton was doing something that the journalists genuinely wanted to talk about and there was no quid-quo-pro commitment to take out advertising space.

Daily Telegraph 2 May 2008
We were listed as one of 50 great pubs in England and Wales, selected from Alistair Sawday's latest publication:
"A lovely spot for peaceful summer sipping. Pop in for a beef and horseradish sandwich or linger over pot-roasted rabbit. Adnams and Woodforde's beers add to the appeal, as do eclectic menus that list a range of classic pub dishes, all at good prices. Puddings are wonderful: sticky toffee pudding with caramel sauce, passion fruit pavlova." http://www.telegraph.co.uk/wine/main.jhtml?xml=/wine/2008/05/02/edpubs102.xml&page=3
