About The Red Lion Hinxton

Welcome to The Red Lion, a free house that has resided at the heart of the Cambridgeshire conservation village of Hinxton since the 16th Century, and is run by landlord Alex Clarke.

A Grade II listed building provides the setting for the original bar, while an impressive new oak, dry peg, extension was designed in 1994, to offer a more airy and spacious dining room in a classic and sympathetic style. The walled garden has a quintessentially English setting with pergolas, a dovecote, a patio with parasols and all overlooked by the village church clock tower.

We are proud that we continue to retain our listing in both The Good Pub Guide (since 1992) and The Good Beer Guide (since 1986), particularly as these publications are based purely on merit, unlike the many subscription-based guides. This is a great credit to our team.

We use fresh local produce, where possible, to create seasonal dishes that are always cooked to order.

While well-behaved adults, children and dogs are welcome, we do not have a specific children's menu. We can offer most of our dishes in any size or adaptation requested and we adjust the price accordingly. It is a diverse menu that satisfies most tastes.

We are reliant on feedback from our customers to ensure that we retain our standards and to help us adapt and improve. You can do this by filling out our feedback form - we'd be delighted to hear from you.
